The Oddities of Somnambulism

Friday, August 27, 2004

So, at like 3:00 o'clock in the morning I awake to the sound of something falling off my bed. I remember thinking, "What the heck was that?" I open my eyes to look around and then start to wonder, "Where the hell am I?" A few more seconds of consciousness helped me realize that I was sleeping on my futon, in our second bedroom. "WTF?! I didn't go to bed here; how did I get here?" Throughout my life I've had many, many experiences of sleepwalking, but this one may take the cake. Maybe I needed more room on the bed - my wife was away for a few days so I had the whole thing to myself. Maybe I went to pee and wandered back to the wrong bed. Who knows?! Anyway, it turned out to be a CD that was sitting on the edge of the futon (I had to check on my way out of the house this morning.)

Sleepwalking Gene

Funny, reading some articles reminded me that I have also experienced the "opposite" of sleepwalking: sleep paralysis. That is really pretty freaky, too. There's nothing like waking from a dream (violent, emotional, etc.) and not being able to move!

How Long Has It Been

Thursday, August 26, 2004

I guess there are some people, though maybe only a few, who actually read this blog. "Why haven't you updated your blog?" they ask me. Well, it's been updated.

On a completely unrelated side note, how about this:

Family Picnic In Ohio

Sunday, August 15, 2004

I got a chance to hang out with my family today (mom, grandparents, sister & niece) and have a little picnic. That was nice. It can be tough living on the other side of the country and not being able to see your family very much. At the same time, I have grown so accustomed to SF, it's weird being back here in Ohio. I put a couple of pictures up if you're interested.

Last Night In Town (Athens, Ohio)

Thursday, August 12, 2004

Wow, what a week. Drinking and eating to our hearts content. Sleeping at the weirdest hours. Exactly why I love this town! If you've never been to Athens, Ohio, I recommend you try at least once in your (young) life.

I spent some time this afternoon watching the O'betty's 2nd Annual Hot Dog Eating Contest. My good ol' buddy Chip decided to give it a try this year. Poor guy. Check out a few snapshots I took. There will be footage available on another website soon. I'll make sure to post a link when it's ready.

Next stop, crash up derby at the Athens County Fair. Whoopie!

Going Back to Ohio

Friday, August 06, 2004

I'm leaving on a jet plane, do you know when I'll be back again?

I love the current headline on CNN.com:
Slowdown in 'chatter' worries officials
A drop in so-called "chatter" among suspected terrorists is troubling some counterterrorism officials, who noticed a reduction in intercepted communications before the terror attacks of September 11, 2001, government sources said.
